Gender roles and new family patterns: behaviours, opinions and attitudes

Since the seventies we faced an increasing variability in the ways people set their family life, and the analysis of determinants of familiar and reproductive choices has thus become a relevant research issues within population studies.
The ideational system also seems to play a major role on the diffusion of new models of behaviour.
This work aims at explaining the variability of family behaviours by adopting a gender approach; its originality consists in considering not only the gendered behaviours but also the opinions towards gender roles as main determinants of the attitudes towards new family models.
The study is based on European data from the ISSP Family and Changing Gender Roles III.
The selected variables concern:
- Gender arrangements within the couple
- Opinions and attitudes towards gender roles
- Opinions and attitudes towards new family behaviours
The analysis has been carried out by means of methods of multivariate analysis.
