Mortality and health in Madrid during the first third of the Twentieth Century

This paper will approach the analysis of mortality and migration in a big city, Madrid, during a period in which the city doubled its population due, mainly, to the arrival of migrants from other areas of Spain. We will approach the effects of the arrival of migrants on the overall mortality conditions of the City and how those migrants were registered in the Civil Registration system and in the Census of Madrid, for the Period between 1895 till 1925. We will use published and un-published material from municipal archives, which it will make possible the analysis at district and borough level, allowing us the analysis of mortality estimates by age, sex, cause of deaths and birthplace.
