Y2k - the Year 2000 problem
|
By the resolution of the Government of the Slovak Republic
the Y2k Working Group of the Governmental Council for
Informatics was created in March 1999 to ensure
methodical control, coordination and monitoring of
all nationwide activities concerning the Y2k problem.
Activities of the Y2k Working Group include
-
creating and maintaining a specific web site devoted
to the Y2k problem (this site),
-
publishing methodological recommendations, which describe
the Y2k problem and give
advice for dealing with the problem,
-
monitoring the preparedness of the national infrastructure
(energy, telecommunication, transport, banking, health care etc.),
to manage a smooth transition into year 2000,
-
preparing updated reports on the state of activities for
the government, which, after their approval, are published
on the Y2k web site,
-
creating and publishing of Y2k National Action Plan,
-
organizing press conferences discussing the Y2k problem,
-
informing international organizations on the progress of the Y2k
problem solution in the Slovak Republic.
In parallel with these activities various other initiatives
took place:
-
several conferences devoted to the Y2k problem took place,
one of them organized in cooperation of the British Embassy
and the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic,
-
a web site ˝Forum2000˝ has been established by an
initiative group including also some IT suppliers
(IBM, Microsoft etc.) providing selected articles, giving
advice and responding questions,
-
the problem of the Y2k is discussed also on the web sites
of some ministries (e.g. Ministry of Health, Ministry
of Economy, some others are prepared) as well as on the
web sites of the National Bank of Slovakia and some
commercial organizations,
-
articles discussing the Y2k problem are being published in
daily newspapers as well as in specialized economic press.
The purpose of this site is to inform general public
about the Y2k problem and the status of it's solution
in the Slovak Republic.
